Every time I pick up my camera to photograph a wedding, I’m reminded of why I chose this work in the first place. For me, photography isn’t just about beautiful light or perfectly curated details (though I love those too) — it’s about honoring real moments and telling stories that matter.

So today, I’m stepping out from behind the camera to share a little of my own story:
Why I became a wedding photographer in Tallahassee, and what it means to me.

It Started with a Love for Home

I’ve lived in (or near) Tallahassee for much of my life. It’s where I learned how moss-draped oaks can turn any afternoon into a southern fairytale. Where red brick buildings, quiet parks, and golden light show up in ways that feel both grand and intimate.

As I started pursuing photography, I realized how rich and emotional this region is. Tallahassee is full of character, history, and small moments that often go unseen. I wanted to capture all of that — not just as a creative, but as someone who’s deeply rooted here.

Why Weddings?

Weddings are unlike anything else. There’s anticipation, chaos, laughter, nerves, and joy — all packed into a single day. It’s real. And I’ve always been drawn to that.

There’s something powerful about being invited into those private, emotional moments:

• A father seeing his daughter in her dress for the first time.

• The quiet hand-squeeze before walking down the aisle.

• The spontaneous tears during vows.

• The uninhibited joy on a crowded dance floor.

Weddings are stories, layered and deeply personal. I don’t take it lightly that people trust me to preserve them.

The Moment It Clicked

Early in my career, I photographed a small backyard wedding here in Tallahassee. It was simple. No planner. No elaborate details. But what it had — in abundance — was love.

The bride’s grandmother made her bouquet. The groom cried before the ceremony even started. Their dog served as the ring bearer.

I remember thinking: These are the kinds of stories I want to tell forever.

It wasn’t about perfection — it was about meaning. And I realized that wedding photography wasn’t just a job for me; it was a calling.

Why I Stay in Tallahassee

Could I shoot weddings elsewhere? Sure. I often travel for weddings along the Gulf Coast, in 30A, and beyond. I have even lived in Los Angeles and Washington DC and have shot weddings all across the U.S. in some of the most epic places. But Tallahassee will always be home base.

Because here’s what Tallahassee offers that few places do:

• A sense of rootedness. Many of my couples have deep ties here — to FSU, their family, their faith.

• Natural beauty that doesn’t compete. From Maclay Gardens to South Eden Plantation, our venues are charming and full of soul.

• Community. As a local, I get to truly know my couples. I’m not just showing up for a gig — I’m often photographing their proposals, their weddings, and eventually, their growing families. All of my clients end up becoming friends and making me feel like part of the family.
