This is one of the most common questions couples ask:
“Do we really need a second photographer?”

What a Second Photographer Actually Does
A second shooter allows for:
- Multiple angles during key moments, especially during the ceremony
- Both partners getting ready coverage
- More candid moments captured
- Most importantly – a back up person just in case something happens to one photographer

When It’s Worth It
You’ll likely benefit from a second photographer if:
- You have 75+ guests
- You’re getting ready in separate locations
- You want more candid coverage
- Want more portraits and a variety of different angles during bride & groom portraits
- Want both view points during the ceremony (from the front and the back)

When You May Not Need One
For smaller weddings or elopements, one photographer is often enough. Especially if you are booking a small package such as 4 hours of wedding day coverage.
My Recommendation
I always guide my couples based on their specific day—not a one-size-fits-all answer. If you are having a larger wedding or have a flexible budget then I love all the benefits a second shooter can provide. But if you are having a micro wedding or have a tight budget and booking a smaller package then skipping the second shooter is totally fine.
