Katherine & Ben’s Elegant Private Estate Wedding in Tallahassee, Florida

An Intimate Outdoor Wedding Filled with Joy, Family, and a Little Rain

Some wedding days are remembered because everything goes exactly according to plan.

Katherine and Ben’s wedding will always be remembered because it didn’t—and somehow, it turned out even more beautiful because of it.

On August 1, 2026, family and friends gathered at Ben’s parents’ private estate in Tallahassee, Florida, for an intimate outdoor wedding celebrating two best friends who cared far more about spending time with the people they loved than sticking to a perfectly planned timeline.

With towering live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, elegant white florals, soft sage green details, and one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever photographed, their wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful celebrations are often the simplest ones.

A Love Story That Began at Troy University

Katherine, originally from Alabama, and Ben, a Tallahassee native, met while attending Troy University.

Although the couple now calls Atlanta home, they knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding somewhere meaningful.

Instead of choosing a traditional wedding venue, they decided to exchange vows at Ben’s parents’ beautiful Tallahassee property. Surrounded by lush green lawns, mature oak trees, and the people who know them best, the setting perfectly reflected the relaxed and intentional atmosphere they envisioned.

With approximately sixty of their closest family members and friends in attendance, every part of the day felt personal, welcoming, and incredibly genuine.

A Wedding Designed Around What Mattered Most

One of my favorite things about Katherine and Ben’s wedding was how intentionally they planned their day around what mattered most to them.

Rather than filling the timeline with countless formal traditions, they kept things beautifully simple.

They shared a short first dance before heading back to celebrate with their guests. They skipped parent dances altogether because spending time with family and friends was their highest priority.

Even when it came to photography, Katherine never wanted to spend hours away from her reception.

Family portraits were completed in less than ten minutes.

Wedding party portraits took less than five minutes.

We spent only about twenty minutes creating bride and groom portraits before they excitedly headed back to enjoy cocktail hour and celebrate with everyone who had traveled to be there.

As a Tallahassee wedding photographer, I often remind couples that beautiful wedding photographs don’t require disappearing from your wedding for an hour or more. With thoughtful planning and an efficient timeline, it’s absolutely possible to receive an incredible gallery while still experiencing every moment of your celebration.

Katherine and Ben were the perfect example of that.

When Rain Changes the Timeline

Like many summer weddings in North Florida, Mother Nature had other plans.

Rain fell throughout the afternoon, making it impossible to follow the original timeline exactly as planned. Their ceremony, originally scheduled for 7:00 p.m., was postponed until 7:45 p.m. while everyone waited for the weather to cooperate.

Instead of letting the rain create stress, Katherine remained exactly as she had been all day—calm, joyful, and simply excited to marry her best friend.

Ben, on the other hand, became visibly emotional the moment he saw Katherine for their first look.

To keep them dry, we tucked them beneath the edge of a covered carport while still allowing the beautiful greenery surrounding the property to become the backdrop for their portraits.

Looking through the gallery now, you would never know those photographs were created just a few feet away from pouring rain.

Soft overcast skies gave us the dreamiest light imaginable, while the vibrant green landscape made every image feel timeless and romantic.

Sometimes the best wedding photographs come from embracing the unexpected instead of fighting it.

Portraits Beneath the Oaks

As the rain finally began to slow, we stepped out from the covered area and wandered beneath the incredible canopy of live oak trees that surrounded the property.

Spanish moss gently swayed overhead while the soft evening light created the perfect backdrop for portraits.

Even though Katherine only wanted a few minutes together before joining cocktail hour, those quiet moments quickly became some of my favorite images from the day.

She was absolutely radiant.

Ben never stopped smiling.

And together, they made photographing their wedding effortless.

A Very Special Guest

One of my favorite moments from the day involved someone who wasn’t technically part of the wedding party.

Lucky, Katherine and Ben’s adorable dachshund, traveled from Atlanta to celebrate with them.

Although an injured leg kept him from participating in the ceremony, he couldn’t miss the portraits.

Dressed in the sweetest little white bow tie, Lucky joined Katherine and Ben for a few family photographs that perfectly reflected who they are as a couple.

For many couples, pets are family.

These portraits became some of my absolute favorites from the day.

Timeless Details with an Elegant Color Palette

Every design decision reflected Katherine’s timeless style.

Her stunning long-sleeve lace wedding gown paired beautifully with classic white roses and delicate baby’s breath bouquets.

The bridesmaids wore soft muted sage green dresses that blended perfectly with the surrounding North Florida landscape.

Simple, elegant, and romantic.

The entire day felt elevated without ever feeling overdone.

An Outdoor Reception Beneath Beautiful Sailcloth Tents

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the back of the property where an elegant reception awaited beneath stunning white sailcloth tents.

White linens, candlelight, delicate floral arrangements, muted green table accents, and glowing café lights created an atmosphere that felt both luxurious and welcoming.

As dusk settled over the property, guests laughed, visited, and enjoyed one another’s company beneath the warm glow of the string lights.

It was the perfect ending to a beautiful day.

A Reception Guests Won’t Forget

Instead of a traditional plated dinner, Katherine and Ben chose an elevated heavy hors d’oeuvres reception catered by JCT Events Co. LLC, and it was honestly one of the most impressive wedding meals I’ve experienced.

Guests enjoyed an incredible selection of thoughtfully prepared small bites, including:

  • Beef croquettes with whipped potatoes and red wine demi-glace
  • Herb-roasted chicken and Gruyère sliders
  • Smoked tomato chutney and mozzarella caprese crostini
  • Chicken and waffle bites finished with maple bourbon drizzle
  • Fresh anti-pasta salad
  • Freshly brewed sweet tea and house lemonade

Not only was every bite absolutely delicious, but the presentation itself felt refined and luxurious.

The entire dining experience encouraged guests to mingle, visit, and enjoy the evening together, perfectly matching Katherine and Ben’s vision for a relaxed celebration.

Dancing the Night Away

Once dinner concluded, the Jacob Ryan Band took over and transformed the reception into one incredible celebration.

Their live music kept the dance floor packed as guests sang along, danced together, and celebrated long into the evening.

Although Katherine and Ben intentionally skipped several traditional reception events, they never skipped the celebration.

The evening was filled with laughter, hugs, conversation, and countless moments spent with the people they love most.

Exactly as they had envisioned.

The Importance of Trusting Your Wedding Vendors

One of the biggest takeaways from Katherine and Ben’s wedding wasn’t the rain.

It was trust.

When the weather forced us to adjust the timeline, every vendor worked together seamlessly to create an incredible experience.

Payton with A Piece of Cake Event Planning did an amazing job keeping the day moving smoothly despite the constant weather changes.

Hunter Brooke Beauty created Katherine’s timeless bridal hairstyle that remained beautiful throughout the day, while Haus of Beauty gave her a classic, glowing makeup look that photographed perfectly from beginning to end.

The ceremony started later than expected.

Portrait locations changed.

The timeline shifted.

Yet none of those things affected the experience.

When you hire experienced wedding professionals who know how to adapt, unexpected weather simply becomes another part of your story—not the thing that defines it.

A Wedding That Perfectly Reflected Who They Are

When I look back at Katherine and Ben’s wedding, I don’t immediately think about the rain.

I think about Ben’s smile when he first saw Katherine.

I think about Lucky wearing his tiny white bow tie.

I think about friends laughing beneath glowing string lights.

I think about a bride who never worried about perfection because she was too busy soaking in every moment.

Their wedding was never about elaborate traditions or perfectly timed sunsets.

It was about marrying your best friend, surrounded by your favorite people, in a place that already felt like home.

And honestly…

I can’t imagine a more beautiful way to begin a marriage.
