Sunset Beach Engagement at Mashes Sands | Tallahassee Wedding Photographer

There’s something about salt air, soft sand, and golden light that brings out the absolute best in people — and Matt and Taylor’s engagement session at Mashes Sands Beach was the perfect example of that.

Just 45 minutes south of Tallahassee, Mashes Sands in Panacea, FL is one of my favorite hidden gems for engagement photos. The mix of driftwood, tall grasses, open shoreline, and glowing sunsets creates such a peaceful, romantic vibe. And when you pair that with a couple like Matt and Taylor — who are so completely themselves together — the results are pure magic.

Why Mashes Sands?

When Matt and Taylor told me they were dreaming of a laid-back beach session with natural vibes, I knew Mashes Sands would be a perfect fit. It’s quiet, rarely crowded, and has that slightly wild, untouched beauty that makes every session feel special. You get the best of both worlds: open water views and gorgeous coastal vegetation.

We timed their session for golden hour, and the light could not have been more perfect — soft, warm, and just a little breezy. It’s one of those spots where the sky always seems to show off, and this evening was no exception.

Natural Chemistry & Candid Moments

Matt and Taylor are the kind of couple who just click. Within the first few frames, I could already tell their session was going to be full of laughter, movement, and genuine connection. No stiff posing here — just two people completely at ease, soaking in the moment and each other.

They started barefoot in the sand, walking along the shore, hand in hand. Every so often, Taylor would glance up at Matt with this look — that kind of look that says “this is home.” Moments like that are what I live to photograph.

A Quick Outfit Change for Golden Hour

Halfway through the session, they did a quick outfit change — Taylor in a flowy white dress that moved beautifully in the breeze, and Matt in a soft neutral button-down that gave the perfect beachy vibe. We shot in the grassy dunes, then moved down to the water just as the sun was dipping low.

They danced in the surf, splashed a little, and ended the session wrapped up in each other with the pastel sky glowing behind them. These are the kinds of images that feel timeless — the kind you’ll look back on years from now and still feel all the emotions of that season of life.

Engagement Sessions With Intention

Your engagement photos should feel like you — relaxed, natural, and filled with personality. Whether you’re walking downtown Tallahassee, wandering around Maclay Gardens, or chasing the tide at Mashes Sands, I approach every session with the goal of telling your story in a way that feels authentic and joyful.

With Matt and Taylor, it was less about posing and more about giving them space to connect. I gave a little direction, but mostly encouraged them to move, laugh, and just be — and that’s what created the magic.

Thinking About a Beach Engagement Session?

If you’re considering a beach engagement session near Tallahassee, Mashes Sands is an amazing option — peaceful, scenic, and beautifully low-key. You don’t have to drive all the way to 30A or Destin to get gorgeous coastal photos. This little slice of Old Florida is perfect for couples who want something natural and intimate.

Let’s Plan Yours

If you’re newly engaged and dreaming of a session that feels true to who you are, I’d love to connect! Whether it’s the beach, downtown, or somewhere meaningful to you both, I’ll help you feel relaxed and confident in front of the camera — and capture images you’ll cherish forever.
